I'll be giving a talk at the Hirshhorn on Andy Warhol and the Empire 3 exhibition

I am honored to be asked by The Hirshhorn to discuss the latest Directions exhibition, Empire3. Warhol's work has been an influence on my own art practice, as well as my academic work (including a 2004 PCA/ACA annual conference presentation on Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, and Takashi Murakami). I am excited to discuss his film Empire, as well as Douglas Gordon's Bootleg (Empire) and Wolfgang Staehle's Empire 24/7.

Salon Contra w Andrew Wodzianski - April 27th, 7-9pm

UPDATE: Philippa Hughes has posted some clips from our conversation on her Pink Line Project site.

On Tuesday, April 27th from 7-9pm, I will be in conversation with artist Andrew Wodzianski to discuss his latest project "Pop Up Living," for which he has collaborated with developers, architects, and designers to produce.

For two weeks, Andrew is living in a temporary space and broadcasting his daily, self-proclaimed "banal" actions via USTREAM. I stopped by his space on Monday to get a sense of his intentions for the project, and after hitting on topics as diverse as "The House with the Ocean View" (by Marina Abramovic), "I'm not here to make friends," (the notorious reality tv phrase spoken by at least one person in every reality tv show; see This American Life: Act Two), IKEA living, and sustainable materials, I'm looking forward to how our conversation develops as he virtually attends via webcam. (I'll be in my pajamas.)
